The Chain Bar is designed to manually actuate any quarter turn valve, such as plug, ball, and butterfly valve, from the floor that is in a hard-to-reach location. It replaces the handle on a quarter turn valve and is designed to be installed with the existing retaining nut. Unless specified, the Chain Bar will come with a solid face, intended for boring on site.
Available in the following materials:

Ordering Instructions:
- Click here to access the order form or follow the directions below.
- Chain - Measure the length from the valve stem to the floor in feet, subtract 3 feet and then multiply by 2 to determine the proper length of chain. 1/0 chain is recommended for this product. Please order either GC-1 (galvanized chain) or SC-1 (stainless chain).
- Boring - The Chain Bar will come with a solid face unless otherwise specified. If boring is required, send the valve specifications that include stem dimensions to info@babbitt.com to obtain a quote prior to placing the order. The maximum bore size is 1-1/8". As demonstrated in the technical drawing, the bore hole must be done at a 45 degree angle to ensure proper function of the Chain Bar.
Click here for a technical image of the Chain Bar. A sample bore and prevention hole are displayed on the technical drawing.
Note: The chain bar does not come with a stop mechanism to prevent the valve from going beyond the typical open and closed positions. It is recommended that an additional pin be installed on site to ensure proper functioning of the valve.- Safety kits provide a secondary attachment to reduce the potential hazard of a falling valve or chain bar. Included in the kit are a safety cap and 5 feet of 7x19 stainless steel wire with 4 stainless steel clamps. To order a safety wheel, use the part numbers below. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
- Chain is required for chain bar operation but is not included in the price due to varying length requirements. For more information on chain, visit our chain section.
